Ring scraps cop surveillance deal after super bowl ad: ai dog-finder feature turns out scarier than the police

Ring has canceled its partnership with Flock Safety, a police surveillance provider, due to unforeseen resource requirements. The partnership, announced in October 2025, aimed to enable law enforcement agencies to request smart doorbell videos from users through Ring's Community Requests feature. However, following backlash from a recent Super Bowl ad promoting its Search Party feature, which sparked concerns about surveillance, Ring has decided to call off the partnership. The company had previously faced criticism for sharing security cam videos with law enforcement without consent, but had walked back its police-friendly stance in 2024, stating it would require a warrant to share videos. The canceled partnership would have marked a return to police collaboration, allowing law enforcement to request videos from users, who could choose to share footage anonymously and optionally. No Ring customer footage was sent to Flock, and the integration was never launched.
