Dev uses Claude AI to build bespoke TTS brain-hack in 45 minutes, bypassing the 'too niche for roadmap' excuse forever

A developer with autism has created a bespoke accessibility tool to improve their reading experience, leveraging AI-powered technology to build a custom solution. The individual, who retains information best through both visual and auditory means, was frustrated by the lack of text-to-speech functionality on the web version of the Claude app. Using the Claude Code platform, they requested assistance in building a utility to enable text-to-speech functionality on their Windows system. Within 45 minutes, a working architecture was provided, which the developer then refined into a system tray app called LocalTTS. This app, built using.NET 8 and Docker, allows the user to highlight any text and have it read back immediately using the Kokoro TTS engine. The solution demonstrates the potential for AI to empower individuals with cognitive differences to build customized tools, increasing their agency and productivity. This development has significant implications for the future of accessibility and personalization in technology.
